Lake Cumberland is outdoor lovers’ dream. With over 1,200 miles of pristine shoreline, forestland, secluded bays and waterfalls, Lake Cumberland is one of Kentucky’s most popular vacation spots. There are four commercial marinas on Lake Cumberland with rentals for everything from small fishing boats to state-of-the-art houseboats. The wide, deep waters are perfect for fishing, and the lake is full of crappie, walleye, trout, catfish and five species of bass. The nearby Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery holds a Fishing Derby for children ages 5 to 15 the first Saturday in June. Lake Cumberland has swimming, water skiing, hiking, horseback riding and camping. Or spend a leisurely day lakeside, doing nothing except enjoying the views. Lake Cumberland also offers some of the best golfing in the state. For other non-lake activities, spend a day sightseeing at the Creelboro Arch, a natural National Landmark; the Mill Springs Civil War Battlefield, or one of several fairs and festivals held in the area throughout the year.
