Lake Cumberland is one of the ten largest man-made lakes in the country. Located 70 miles south of Lexington and 45 miles west of Somerset, this scenic lake covers over 63,000 acres with more than 1,200 miles of federally protected shoreline. With all types of water sports, camping, hiking and more, Lake Cumberland has become one of the finest recreational areas in the Eastern United States. Beautiful in any season, the area abounds with festivals and special events that draw thousands each year. The nearby towns of Jamestown and Russell Springs offer antique and gift shops, farmers markets, and even an old-fashioned soda shop for a tempting, refreshing treat. For history buffs, there are the Civil War battle sites of Mill Springs and Dutton Hill, or the lovely historic downtown district in nearby Somerset. Lake Cumberland has an abundance of restaurants, hotels, lakeside cabins and cottages to choose from - something for everyone’s taste and budget. When you visit Lake Cumberland, you will see why it has become one of the top vacation destinations in the Eastern United States.
